Summer Colors Fine Art Show
By zach Claxton
July is a busy month for the Highlands-Cashiers Art League.
In July it will sponsor the first of two annual fine art shows. The Summer Colors Fine Art Show will be held in the Sapphire Valley Community Center, just off of U.S. 64, about three miles east of the Cashiers Crossroads. The dates of the event are Saturday and Sunday, July 20-21, 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. both days. This free event will feature the original artwork of about 25 talented regional artists. Paintings, photographs, glass, wood, one-of-a-kind jewelry and other original artwork will be on display and for sale. This indoor event offers ample free parking and protection from the elements. It’s always well-attended and draws praise from attendees.
On Monday, July 29, the monthly Art League meeting and presentation will be held in the Atrium of The Bascom. A wine social begins at 4:30 P.M., with the presentation at 5:00. July’s speaker will be Sue Taylor White, a well-known Alabama oil painter.
Ms. White’s representational style makes the subjects of her paintings seem to come alive. Much of her work depicts wildlife, but of late she’s traveled west and has added western art to her repertoire. Among the many awards she has received are the Top Award in the Wildlife Division of the Wonders of Alabama Art Competition and the Employee Choice Award. She also took first place at the Wildlife Federation yearly show and received the Award of Excellence for her depiction of wild turkeys. Other awards are too numerous to list here.
Her work has appeared in many publications and as the cover art for multiple magazines. Her compositions have been used in commercial applications such as greeting cards, T-shirts, and bank checks. Taylor White is a signature member of the Artists for Conservation, a nonprofit international organization of wildlife artists with members spanning five continents and 27 countries. The organization has published three of her paintings in two different coffee table books. White’s work can be found in public and private collections throughout the United States and Canada.
You should plan to attend this free presentation as well as the wine social for an entertaining and informative evening. For more information about the Art League, visit artleagueofhighlands-cashiers.com.
