Shopping on the East Side

by Ashley Stewart

Mountain Fresh Grocery and Wine Market owner Steve Snead-Smith is very excited about the changes that they have planned for the one-of-a-kind store and restaurant.

Rest assured, the updates will only enhance your experience at Mountain Fresh.

“We’ve opened up the floor plan, so it doesn’t feel as crowded when you walk in,” says Steve, “We’re also adding a few new retail items and updating our menu.”

Also new this year is online ordering for the pizza parlor. Customers are now able to order and pay for their pizza online and have it ready for pick-up. Of course, you’ll still be able to order coffee at the espresso bar and the bakery selection is second to none. Their offerings of artisan oils and vinegars are the perfect complement to any meal and make a perfect hostess gift. Mountain Fresh Grocery is open Monday through Saturday, 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., and Sunday from 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Call (828) 526-2400 or visit mfgro.com.

When you’re done eating, be sure to stop by the Highland Hiker before you head out into the wilderness. Purveyors of all things outdoorsy, the Highland Hiker is actually three locations in one. The first is the shoe store, packed to the brim with name brand shoes, boots and sandals. In the main store, the knowledgeable staff will help you find the adventure gear you need to explore the Plateau. Just through the trees is The Cabin. This historic 1929 Joe Webb log cabin has an excellent selection of everyday wear and fly-fishing gear. The Highland Hiker is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Call (828) 526-5298 and check them out at highlandhiker.com.

Next door to the Highland Hiker is The Bookworm. Staffed entirely by volunteers, this used bookstore is an excellent place to find whatever reading material you may be looking for. All of the profits benefit the Hudson Library and help fund its many programs. If you have unwanted books of your own, The Bookworm is always accepting donations. They’re open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

The Business Spot is your go-to place for custom stationery. Use one of their designs or bring in your own to create one of a kind greeting cards, thank you notes and invitations. They offer a full range of printing and shipping services in addition to their wide selection of office supplies, printer cartridges, and even purses that charge your cellphone! Have a seat at one of their workstations and use the Wi-Fi to get down to business. Need to send a fax or shred sensitive documents? The Business Spot has you covered. They’re open 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Monday through Friday, and 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Saturday. Call (828) 482-0286 or visit biz-spot.net.
