Scholarship Links

The Town of Highlands Scholarship Fund Golf Classic, set for October 17 at Wildcat Cliffs Country Club, is an idyllic day on the links and a vital resource for local scholars.

Each year the Town of Highlands, together with the support of local business sponsors, hosts the annual Town of Highlands Scholarship Fund Golf Classic.

This year’s tournament, held on Thursday, October 17, is being hosted again at the beautiful Wildcat Cliffs Country Club.

Now in its 44th year, this tournament is the Scholarship Fund’s largest fundraiser of the year, raising approximately $20,000 a year, and one that participants eagerly look forward to.

For $150 per player, golfers can enjoy a day on the greens while helping local students achieve their dreams of obtaining a higher education. Breakfast is included prior to the 8:00 A.M. shotgun start, as well as cocktails and lunch at the awards ceremony that follows. Golfers play in teams of four.  Bring your own foursome to play or sign up as an individual and be assigned to a group.

The Town of Highlands Scholarship Fund was the vision of several Highlanders, including Jack Taylor and Jack Brockway, who wanted to ensure that students from Highlands School had the means to pursue their goals of higher education. It is unique in the state and the availability of these resources to students is invaluable in helping to defray the cost of higher education.

Since its inception, the Scholarship Endowment has grown and 30-40 students a year now benefit from scholarships ranging from $300 to $1,500 with each annual application. The golfers and sponsors who continue to make this event such a success ensure that these scholarships will remain available.

Many of these participants and sponsors are past recipients of these scholarships, or have children who receive them, so they recognize the importance of giving back to this worthwhile cause.
