Groovin’ on the Green

by Mary Jane McCall

The groovy vibes and hard-charging beats have made Groovin’ on the Green a cherished Plateau tradition.

Cool summer evenings are the perfect time to kick up your heels and join your friends and neighbors at the Groovin’ On the Green concerts at the Village Green on Frank Allen Road in Cashiers. These concerts are held most Friday nights in the season at 6:30 P.M., rain or shine.

The Village Green overflows with happy people who line the lawn with blankets, chairs, picnic baskets and coolers, settling in for a rollicking evening of lively music and good times.

It’s not only the patrons who enjoy these evenings so well, but the performers also feed off the crowd and look forward to returning to play in this unique venue over and over again because it’s just so much fun. Sam Potts, drummer for High Five Band says, “We love the beautiful outdoor setting, the patrons, and the family atmosphere. We’re honored to be included in an event that is so well-organized and has become an institution in the Cashiers area, as well as being included in all the great regional and local acts that play there.”

July brings a great lineup with Continental Divide bringing their Motown, Beach, Funk sounds to the stage on July 5. Local favorites Hurricane Creek bring their deep playlist on July 12. There is no concert on July 19. Crowd favorites the High Five Band end the month on a rocking note.

So bring a chair, your family, your friends and even your dog (who must be leashed and under control of the owner at all times) and join the fun on the Green, Fridays at 6:30 P.M. Bring a picnic supper or cooler or purchase food and beverages from one of vendors on site. Groovin’ On the Green is free, but donations are encouraged and appreciated.
