Good Plays, Well Done

by Lynleigh McLain

As it arrives at its 25th year, Highlands-Cashiers Players remains steadfast in its commitment to “Good Plays, Well Done,” thanks to a dedicated troupe of artists and volunteers and a supportive community of patrons.

Since the beginnings in 1995, Highlands-Cashiers Players has brought our slogan, “Good Plays, Well Done,” to life. As the only all-volunteer and not-for-profit theater in the area, we strive to include any and all who wish to be involved which, according to our statistics as of June 2019, include 258 local actors, not to mention the amount of behind-the-scenes volunteers! We would never have gotten as far as we are without the support of so many people. Highlands is truly a special place for the artistic community.

With our 25th year upon us, we enter into our Silver Season. Our board, comprised of members from Highlands, Franklin, and Scaly Mountain work hard and as a team to keep things organized and running efficiently. Many of these people come from different walks of life and even have full-time jobs, but still volunteer their time because of their passion for the arts. Members of the board are: Courtney Scarborough, President; Lynleigh McLain, Vice President and Volunteer Coordinator; Paula Gordon, Treasurer and Box Office Manager; and Jamie Thomas, Secretary.

Other board members include Craig Eister, who runs our website and ticketing program; Donna Cochran, who writes quarterly newsletters; Elizabeth Gordon is in charge of all correspondence; Faye Siegel oversees and coordinates all donations and sponsorship; Lance Trudel is a past president and advisor; and Rick Siegel is a play liaison

Theater is about people and their relationships, about communication. That is what we are truly aiming for, to be the peoples’ theater.

We are so excited to come full circle and open this season with a revival of “Dearly Departed,” a show that was in HCP’s very first season. It is a hilarious Southern comedy well-known to many, and with some fresh new faces in the cast, it’s certainly a must-see! The board members hope to meet you on opening night at the door, and if not, we hope you join us at one of the performances! We welcome new actors, set designers, set builders, lighting or sound volunteers to work with our technical directors, box office volunteers, ushers, and of course, funds to help us live up to our slogan, “Good Plays, Well Done.” Visit us at highlandscashiersplayers.org.
