Bring your Feet & Feel the Beat

by Mary Jane McCall

July is one of the busiest months in Highlands and there are so many opportunities for fun that it’s sometimes hard to pace yourself. One thing you’ll want to make time for is one of the live music concerts under the stars on Friday and Saturday nights.

Friday Night Live concerts take place at Highlands Town Square from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Saturdays on Pine are at the Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park on Pine Street and also begin at 6:00 P.M. These concerts offer the chance to hear some of the finest music our region has to offer.

Friday Night Live concerts are part of the Blue Ridge Music Trails of North Carolina, which offers communities opportunities to hear, learn about and enjoy mountain music. On July 5, The Foxfire Boys will be playing their lively bluegrass favorites, and we have it on good authority that you won’t be disappointed if you request “Fox on the Run.”

On Friday, July 12, The Johnny Webb Band plays country favorites, old and new. Mr. Webb sums up why they return to play as often as they can in two words, “the people.” It’s an uplifting sight to see families enjoying themselves so. Ben and Marce play on July 19 and Sycamore Flats returns on July 24.

Saturdays on Pine offers a wide range of music, so no matter what genre you like you’ll likely find something to enjoy – jazz, country, blues, rock and roll, bluegrass or folk. Come feel the energy and dance the night away with The Get Right Band on July 6, sponsored by Wish & Shoes; Gold Rose on July 13, sponsored by Berkshire Hathaway Meadows Mountain Realty; Andrew Scotchie & The River Rats on July 20, sponsored by 200 Main By Old Edwards; and The Charles Walker Band on July 27, sponsored by Glencove By Old Edwards.
