Auction and Bazaar

by Ashley Stewart

The sheer scale and ambition of the Church of the Good Shepherd’s Auction and Bazaar has made this sublime shopping experience a Plateau Favorite. It’ll be staged Friday and Saturday, July 12-13.

As they always say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. On Friday and Saturday, July 12 and 13, you’ll find treasures of every kind at the Church of the Good Shepherd’s Auction and Bazaar. For over 30 years, the church has hosted this thrift shopper’s paradise to benefit more than 30 non-profits in the greater Cashiers area.

The event begins at 4:00 P.M. on Friday with the Auction. The Silent Auction runs from 4:00 to 6:15 P.M., with refreshments being served at 5:00. The Live Auction will begin at 6:30. The auctions feature more than 200 items and experiences, including two vacations to Aspen, Colorado, and a fish fry at a home overlooking Panthertown. A $10 donation for entry to the auction is appreciated. A shuttle will be available to additional parking at Cashiers United Methodist Church.

The real fun begins on Saturday, when the Bazaar opens at the Cashiers Community Center. The doors open at 9:00 A.M., but the line begins to form as early at 7:00 A.M., so be sure to get there early! The crew at “Chez Shepherd” will be cooking breakfast for the early birds and lunch for the afternoon shoppers.

In front of the Community Center is the Sporting Goods and Junque Tent, which contains sporting goods, tools, luggage, pet supplies and odds and ends. The Sporting Good and Junque Tent is adjacent to the Children’s Tent, where you’ll find everything you need to create a mountain getaway for baby, including cribs, strollers, toys and games.

Within the Bazaar, you’ll find antiques, linens, bric-a-brac, sporting goods, Christmas decorations, and much more. You’ll also find a selection of Heavenly Foods. These premade meals have been lovingly prepared and frozen by volunteers. Each meal is labeled with a list of ingredients.

Don’t forget to hop on the shuttle to the Bazaar Furniture Barn located behind Christ Church of the Valley on Highway 64, just East of the Crossroads. The Furniture Barn has everything you need to furnish your home including dining sets, chairs, rugs and artwork.

If all of that wasn’t enough, the church is also selling raffle tickets. Tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20. There are 10 different prizes including an Apple watch, a Yeti cooler, and several gift certificates for local businesses. To purchase tickets or for more information, visit goodshepherdofcashiers.com or call (828) 743-2359.
